Our Hilton Head vacation was the most incredible vacation we have ever been on. I just can not stop talking about it to all of my friends and family.

It is almost a certainty that it is when you are traveling or on vacation that things will go wrong. Problems that could leave you with bad memories and a dislike of the local people, and maybe having to replace lost items; it could cost you lots of money and end up ruining your holiday. Trust your instincts if something doesn't feel right, do something about it. It is a common mistake for many travelers to carry all of their valuables with them in the belief they are safer, this could not be further from the truth. Just take what you need for the time you will be away and place anything that is valuable in the hotel safe. One tip that has saved many travelers hassle is placing money in various locations so it makes it harder for thieves and pickpockets to get it all at once.

Many couples who have not adopted the travel safely ethos will have 2 credit cards, both accessing the same account; it is much easier to use two cards, each accessing separate accounts so if one is lost or stolen, there is a backup. For some time now, thieves have been perfecting the art of snatching handbags and cameras on straps over the shoulder; but by placing the strap over the head and laying it across the chest, this is much harder to do without cutting the strap. When you walk out make sure you are on the sidewalk as motorbikes and cars can't drive here and if you have your bag or camera dangling off the shoulder furthest from the road it won't be so easy to take. Everyone has heard the stories of different confidence tricks that have happened to vacationers because they are relaxed and let their guard down but the truth is these people do this sort of thing for a living.

The truth is we always believe it won't happen to us because we are too streetwise but it is that arrogance that gets us caught out and these individuals do this every day. For instance, when carrying small bags (rucksacks for example), it is not a difficult job to place a small combination lock on it to put thieves off; remember they are always looking for the easy victim!
